Sign Up, Show Up Professionalism Statement

We understand that being a researcher means juggling many responsibilities—and that sometimes, despite best intentions, things don’t go to plan. The “Sign Up, Show Up” ethos isn’t about rigid rules; it’s about mutual respect, open communication, and making the most of every learning opportunity.

When you register for a development workshop, you’re helping to create a shared learning space — for yourself, your peers, and facilitators. Register with intention and let us know if circumstances change. Clear communication keeps our workshops inclusive, flexible, and valuable.

Expectations

Sign Up with Intention

  • Book only sessions you are confident you can attend.
  • Consider workload and commitments before registering.
  • Let us know early if something changes.

Respect Others’ Time and Experience

  • Places are limited and in high demand—every spot counts.
  • Cancellations without notice impact others’ learning experience.

Arrive on Time and Stay for the Duration

  • Starting together supports group focus and flow.
  • Aim to stay for the full session; leaving early can disrupts learning.
  • If you must arrive late or leave early, let us know in advance.

Engage in a Way That Works for You

  • We welcome open discussion, peer learning, and lived experiences.
  • For online sessions, join from a quiet or private space where possible; if that’s not possible, talk to us so we can explore alternatives.

Prioritise Your Development

  • Development opportunities support your growth, confidence, and researcher identity.
  • Discuss training needs with your supervisors/managers where relevant
  • Plan ahead to avoid clashes—such as meetings or deadlines—so you can participate fully.

Support an Inclusive Environment

  • Help create a respectful space where all voices are heard.
  • Be open to different perspectives, listen actively, and contribute constructively.

By embracing “Sign Up, Show Up”, we can build a development culture that is supportive, respectful, and accessible—where every researcher can thrive.
